| Bought this as a Christmas present. My daughter said it was an excellent choice & it performed better than she expected. Excellent picture quality, very good sound, two headphone connections. |

| Love this player. My only criticism is that it would be nice if the controls on the unit illuminated in the dark. |
90 Day Warranty - 100 Day Lifespan

I bought the 7 inch screen version of this Sony DVD player. The promised five hour battery life turned out to be three hours, the speakers were awful, but the picture was okay, and it sounded okay with headphones. Ten days after the 90 day labor warranty expired, it began "freezing" on every DVD, sometimes at the beginning, and sometimes after five or ten minutes. Turn the power off, restart the DVD, and ten minutes later, it freezes again.
Sony said that if I paid to send the unit back to them ($12 postage and insurance) that Sony would give me a refurbished unit for $33. So, for a total cost of $45, I would give them my NEW DVD player, and I would get a used DVD player that has only a 90 day warranty.
That $45 might be better invested in a DVD player from Panasonic...a company that still makes products that last more than three or four months. |
Poor usability, poor quality

Poor usability:
i. The buttons are not raised, so you can't feel your way to the correct button, and they aren't illuminated. So if you want to use the buttons on the unit while it is dark, you need to turn on a light.
ii. The battery doesn't charge when the unit is turned on, but the screen turns off automatically. So you might think the unit is turned off, and leave it plugged in overnight, only to find it still uncharged in the morning
iii. The jack from the power adapter sticks straight out from the unit, so if you plan to use this in a car, you need a case that has a hole at the same location as the power receptacle on the unit (we couldn't find one), or else you can bore your own hole in the case.
iv. The jack is not tight, so you might think you have it plugged in, only to find the unit shutting off because it ran out of batteries because the plug had fallen out (especially happens when using this unit in a car on a long trip).
Poor quality:
i. We bought this DVD player to entertain our children during long car trips, but as we prepared to drive back from the very first car trip with this player, it stopped recognizing DVDs.
ii. We got a replacement unit through the warranty. As another reviewer has noted, the screen sometimes turns off in the midst of a video, for no apparent reason. Turning the unit off and on enables the screen to function again. |
