This adapter fills a glaring hole left by Sony. This is the accessory that allows a user to control the PS3 with a Harmony remote. As with all Harmony products, this simply works as advertised.
I was pleasantly surprised by how small this unit is. The shiny black hue camouflages the unit so it's nearly hidden in the tv cabinet. I find it amusing that this is an accessory for an accessory, but it definitely fills a need. Definitely worth the $40 I paid.

My adapter installed quickly and easily following the included instructions. It was quite simple to add the device on both the Playstation 3 and my Harmony 880. The device looks nice and nests discreetly in the cabinet with all of my other electronics. Operation with the controller is perfect, and is far less annoying that using a standard controller during DVD/Blu-Ray playback.
One obvious negative is the AC adapter. Because it's a "wide" wall wart, instead of tall and narrow, it might take up not 1 but 2 extra power outlets on a power strip. There's no reason this device couldn't have been battery powered, even optionally.
The biggest problem, though, is the price. At $50, that was almost half of the price I paid for the Harmony 880 itself, and 3 times the price of the standard Sony remote!! I wouldn't even have the adapter if I didn't receive it as a gift - way too expensive. Especially when the included PS3 controller is wireless and does the basics.
